Consonance

repetition of vowel sounds, not simple vowel repetition (affect tone from sound)

Anaphora

type of refrain device, first word/phrase is repeated to a previous idea (creates rhythym)

Onomatopoeia

words that sound like they mean (helps with immersion)

Enjambment

line does not stop at the end of the line but continues onto the next line without pause or punctuation

Caesura

pause within a line of verse

Juxtaposition

the act of placing 2 or more things side by side to compare/contrast something to create an interesting effect

Closed Form

fits into a previously established form, using structure, rhyme, and meter, can break them strategically

Open Form

doesn’t yield to any rules, doesn’t follow an established pattern, but may use rhyme, rhythm, and structure
