Buoyancy
The upward supportive force on an object in a fluid.
Weight
The force of gravity acting on an object.
Fluid Displacement
The amount of fluid that an object displaces when submerged, which is equal to the buoyant force.
Swim Bladder
A controllable, balloon-like chamber in fish that helps them alter their buoyancy.
Density
The amount of matter per unit volume of a substance, affecting whether it sinks or floats.
Plimsoll Line
Markings on a ship that indicate the safe waterline for floating in different types of water.
Mass
The amount of matter in an object which does not change regardless of location.
Volume
The amount of space an object occupies, measured in cubic units.
Hydrometer
An instrument that measures the buoyancy of liquids, floating at different levels based on the liquid's density.
Ballast Tanks
Chambers in submarines that can be filled with air or water to control buoyancy and depth.
