In this country, people are nice and easy to make friends with. However, it’s hard to feel a part of the group. An important part of being in a friend group is drinking yerba mate. A person puts the yerba in the mate, introduces the straw, and adds more water. All people drink using the same mate and straw. It’s a popular social act an honor to get invited

Like in the US, there are dishes that are shared with the whole table as well. Things like nachos and salsa of the same bag and sometimes a plate of food is ordered to share with everyone, however it’s not a social ritual.

food is eaten later like at 9 or 10 PM, unlike the US, where many restaurants close at 10 pm! Grilled meat is prepared differently as well in this country; food is always cooked outside on the grill,which is permanently on the patio, unlike the mobile grills of the US. A bit of salt and pepper is put on the meat, and the meat is cooked really slowly.  Meat is cooked in the US really quickly and is a little dry, and much barbeque sauce and spices are put on the meat. The meat is just right in this country and it is not necessary to add a lot of condiments.

Argentina

In this country,lunch is served from 12 to 1 PM like America. Also, wine from California is good like wine from Mendoza.

Chile

 The Plaza de Armas in this country has many small stores, stands and restaurants. Some stands sell mote con huesillo, which is a typical sweet and delicious drink. Various  restaurants sell pizzas. Pizza in this country is different because they put many ingredients that are massive where you can’t even see the cheese. The bread is very thick. There are pizzas with beef, veggies, seafood, etc. They are very different from the pizzas known in the US.

Chile

There is a lot of influence from European immigrants in this country, and there is much German and Italian food. One eats a lot of pasta with bread, meat and seafoods. You can eat in many places here today, there is a lot of food variety for the different likes of people, but Italian food is one of the most popular foods, quite like in the US.

United States

In this country not a lot of people actually cook. Instead they cook prepared food, like frozen pizzas, vegetables or microwave meals. They also buy pre-cooked food, like ramen or marconi and cheese. To “Prepare” these foods you only need to add milk,butter or water. The sauces for spaghetti and barbeque sauce are also already prepared.

United States

Like elsewhere, young people eat out and sometimes like to eat quickly prepared food. Not all quickly prepared food is good for the health, but to young people this isn’t important. It’s important to enjoy and pass time with friends.

Colombia

In this country, the most popular sport is soccer. One can say that approximately 70% of the sports  sections on all the newspapers are about soccer. While in the United States you watch idolozed players of Baseball, basketball or American football like Byrce Harper, LeBron James or Tom Brady, the idol of the Colombians is a famous ex-soccer player named Carlos “el Pibe” Valderrama. Many fans of food sometimes wear wigs that look like the hair of Valderrama when cheering in the games.

Many people in this country, especially in the northern coast which is part of the Carribian, also like baseball. They play baseball from October to January and that’s why it’s called the winter league. There are Colombians who play in the grand leagues of the US, between them, Julio Teheran and Jose Quintana.

United States

In this country baseball is as popular as soccer is in Colombia. There are many teams, some with a lot more money than others, and all of them participate in a league to decide who is the best team of the country. Colombia’s national competition is called the “Columbian Cup”. Colmbia also participates in the American Cup, in which many countries of the continent participate, and also in the World cup every 4 years. In the US, the championship is called the “world series”, even though only this country participates in it.

United States

Women’s soccer has much popularity and prestige in the this country like in Colombia. In both places, the female team performs better in the international tournaments then the male team. The female soccer team of Colombia obtained second place in the South American cup, better then what the male team got. In a similar way, the female soccer team of this country won the world cup 3 times and the male team won none.

Venezuela

In this country, foreign movies, or in other words, movies from the United States, Russia, France, and Denmark, are not subtitled, but they have subtitles in Spanish. Every time that this person goes to the theater to see a movie in English with Spanish subtitles, they feel a little weird because they are always the first to laugh before the rest of the audience. Kids movies are dubbed, but the lip syncing is off

United States

This country has movies with subtitles, but not much because the people prefer movies in english. Many small foreign movies have success. Anime from Japan, like Pokemon and Dragon Ball are dubbed.

Venezuela

Soap Operas are very popular in this country. A friend of this person’s mom watches 4 soaps a day, two during the afternoon and two during the night. In this country, the soap operas of the night are the biggest and most popular, unlike in the United States, which only has them during the day. Soap operas only last 1 or 2 years. When one is done, another is started with other names, actors and history. United States soap operas only have one name, the actors die and return to their lives, and some soap operas never terminate.

Venezuela

SO many of this country’s soap operas, like the United States, are a little addictive and have elements of intrigue, love, and betrayal. All episodes end with some cliffhanger that you want to see next. They’re all very melodramatic

Ecuador

Logically, when you’re really close to the equator , you feel hotter, but not in Quito, the capital of this country.  Quito is cold all year! To be fair, Quito is very high in the mountain range and the temperature doesn’t vary a lot. The maximum temperature is 19 to 20 C (48 and 52 F). When this person went to Quito, it was always cold. Also, they got altitude sickness which is uncomfortable because of the altitude. Quito is 2.8 meters in height.

Colorado

In this state of the US, there are many cities that are high up in altitude. The tourists and especially athletes immediately feel the effects of the altitude. To avoid altitude sickness, it’s important not to exercise and one must drink a lot of water.

Ecuador

In Michigan there are 4 seasons in the year and in this country there are two: the wet season and the dry season. In Michigan, the weather changes in the same place. In this country, the weather in a specific place is constant. It’s only different in other places. In the mountains its’s cold, in the central valley it’s always spring and in the coast it’s always hot. In the mountains, many people have red spots on their skins. It’s an effective combination of wind, sun and cold. The people in Michigan don’t have this.

United States

This country is very large, and like Ecuador, has very diverse geography. It has very tall mountains, deserts, valleys, beaches, lakes, rivers and volcanos. It has cold, hot, humid and tropical weather. Ecuador has the same

Peru

This country has many products made with the cocaine plant, like coke sodas, coke tea, coke cookies and coke candy. Coke is a very subtle stimulant, like the caffeine of the sodas that we take in the United States.

United States

The consumption of coffee in the this country is similar to the consumption of coke in Peru. Coffee is a subtle stimulant, except when you have a lot. There is coffee flavored ice cream, and there are pastries and chocolates that contain caffeine that children can buy. Many of our drinks also have caffeine.

Paraguay

When in this country this person saw that all drinks with a lot of Caffeine were called Tereré. It is a herb similar to the mate that they drink in Argentina, but you don’t drink it with hot water, but with very cold water. One puts in a cup called guamapa that is like a thermos and one drinks with a metal straw. It’s a drink that you buy with your friends or family, and all drink it from the same bottle. This person was afraid of the germs, but their friends assured him that the Tereré kills the germs.

Paraguay

In this country many drink coca cola. Also, there is a drink called “wine with cola” similar to the wine coolers of the United States

Many people here in the United States have safe doctors, go to the doctors when sick and buy medicines in the supermarket or in the pharmacies. In this country, if one has a sore throat, they have to gargle hot water and salt. Americans buy antiseptic medication. When paraguayans get the flu, they take an infusion of anise, lemon and honey.. Americans go to the pharmacy and buy some medications. People in the United States don’t use natural medicines.

Paraguay

People in this country also go to the doctor when alternative medicine doesn’t work. They have a public health system that is very cheap, but also they have many private hospitals, like the US.
