Assemble necessary equipment and supplies

Verify that the name on the specimen container matched name on the lab report form

Stir the urine with a tongue depressor to distribute solutes evenly throughout the specimen

Remove the cap from the reagent bottle and remove one strip without touching the test papered and place the lid securely back on the bottle

Dip the test paper end of the reagent strip in the urine specimen

With the reagent side of the strip down pull it across the inside of the specimen container opening to remove excess urine
Step 8 when collecting urine
Begin timing tests immediately

Place the bottle on its side and hold it at the bottom while holding the reagent strip next to the color chart on the bottle with the opposite hand
Step 10 when collecting urine
Read the test results from the bottom to the top in order of shorter to longer timings

Show the test strip to the judge ( verbalized discarding the strip)

Discard urine specimen follow agency protocol (verbalized)

Clean work area with surface disinfectant

Remove an properly dispose of the gloves in the proper receptacle
Step 15 when collecting urine
Use alcohol-based hand rub

Record the results fro each section on the reagent strip in the patients lab report form
Step 17 when collecting urine
Record all required information on the patients chart
