Subject Matter Jurisdiction
The authority of a court to hear a case based on the subject matter of the dispute.
Diversity of Citizenship
A form of subject matter jurisdiction where the parties are from different states and the amount in controversy exceeds $75,000.
Federal Question
A basis for subject matter jurisdiction that arises when a plaintiff's claim is based on federal law.
