Ampules
§single-dose container
§must be broken at the neck to withdraw the drug

Vials
§: glass or plastic container
§sealed with a rubber stopper
§usually contain more than one dose of medication
Mix-O-Vials:
§used to package unstable drugs and allows the components to be combined just before administration
§pressure is applied to the top of the vial to release the stopper between the compartments and allow the drug to be mixed
Syringes
used to supply parenteral medications
Barrel
◉Holds the medication and has calibrations (markings) on the surface
Plunger
Fits in the barrel and moves back and forth. Pulling back on the plunger draws med/air into syringe
Tip
◉The end of the syringe that holds the needle. The needle twists on and locked in place (Luer-Lok)
