Newtons 1st law
An object will stay at rest or continue with the same velocity unless a resultant force acts on it
Inertia
The tendency for an object to resist a change in its motion
What does inertia depend on
Only on mass
The smaller the mass of the object the smaller the force required to move it.
Resultant force
A number of forces acting on an object may be replaced by a single overall force - which has the same effect as all original forces
Moments
A force or system of forces may cause an object to rotate about a pivot (stationary) point
Newton’s 3rd law
When two objects interact, the forces they exert on each other are equal in size and opposite in direction.
