Z Score
A statistical measurement that describes a value's relation to the mean of a group of values, expressed in terms of standard deviations.
Normal Distribution
A continuous probability distribution characterized by a symmetric bell-shaped curve, where most of the observations cluster around the central peak.
Mean (μ)
The average of a set of values, calculated by summing all values and dividing by the number of values.
Standard Deviation (σ)
A measure of the amount of variation or dispersion in a set of values.
Proportion
A part or portion of a whole, typically expressed as a fraction or percentage.
Z Table
A table that provides the area (probability) to the left of a given Z Score in a standard normal distribution.
Probability under the curve
The area under the probability density function (PDF) of a continuous random variable, representing the likelihood of a particular outcome.
Upper half of one percent
Refers to the scores that are higher than the bottom 0.5% in a normal distribution, determined by calculating the corresponding Z Score.
Percentile
A measure indicating the value below which a given percentage of observations fall.
Marketable Tree Diameter
The minimum diameter for trees to be considered commercially viable, determined by statistical analysis of the normal distribution.
