1

What is an ad hoc network?

A temporary network where devices connect directly to each other without using a central router or access point. Can be open WiFi or a hotspot.

2

What security issues come with open networks?

Open wifi often does not have encryption, so the data you send and receive is not secure as it can be easily intercepted and read by others.

3

What performance issues come with ad hoc networks?

More than one user can slow a hotspot down. Too many people using open Wifi can slow a network down. Ad hoc networks also have a limited range and devices need to be near the receiver.

4

What are the issues affecting network availability?

  1. Black spots - tall buildings, tunnels etc

  2. Poor mobile network coverage

  3. Network coverage may be poorer in rural areas

  4. Less developed countries may have poor network coverage

  5. More people on a network can put a strain on the infrastructure

5

What are the features and uses of cloud storage?

  1. Access rights - Different users can be given different access rights to documents.

  2. Synchronization - When a change is made the document updates across all devices.

  3. Availability - Cloud storage allows 24/7 access no matter location as long as the internet is available.

  4. Scalability - Users can increase or decrease amounts of storage depending on need.

6

What are the features and uses of cloud computing?

  1. Installation not required on a device

  2. All users get the same version of the app/software

  3. Cloud computing provider handles security

  4. Online apps are cost effective allowing different plans to be purchased

7

How does the selection of platforms and services impact the use of cloud technologies?

The choice of platform and service affects cost, performance, compatibility, and security — deciding what features are available and how easily users can access and share data.

8

What are the features of cloud technologies?

  1. Apps are updated regularly

  2. Accessible across multiple types of device

  3. Working methods are more flexible

  4. Security as often better as provided by the service provider

  5. Often has the option for a free version or a paid version

  6. Extra storage space can be purchased

  7. Very easy to use (intuitive)

9

What are the implications for organisations choosing using cloud technologies?

Organisations can save money and work more flexibly, but they must consider data security, internet reliability, and dependence on the cloud provider.

10

How are modern teams facilitated by modern technologies?

Modern technologies let teams communicate, share files, and work together online in real time, even when they are in different locations.

11

What are the benefits of modern teams?

  1. Technology such as email, messaging, and document sharing allows team members to communicate during their working hours.

  2. Collaborative technologies allow teams to communicate at any time of the day (24/7), 365 days of the year.

  3. Technologies allow flexible working locations and times

  4. Technologies allow people with health related issues to work from home

  5. Technologies allow people to be hired no matter location.

12

How can organisations use modern technologies to communicate with stakeholders?

  1. Live chat - often used to speak to people privately or in small groups

  2. Video calls - often used to speak to people one to one or in groups

  3. Email - a private formal means of communication

  4. Social media - public communication often used to inform customers or seek public opinions.

  5. Website - public communication often used to promote products or services

13

How do modern technologies aid inclusivity and accessibility?

Modern technologies help everyone take part by offering tools like screen readers, voice control, subtitles, and adjustable text sizes to support different needs. They also allow flexible working with those who need it.

14

What are the positive and negative impacts of modern technology on organisations in terms of inclusivity and accessibility?

Positive: Makes work more accessible with tools for different needs and flexible working.

Negative: Can exclude people without digital skills or access to modern devices.

15

What are the positive impacts of modern technology on organisations overall?

Improves communication, boosts productivity, reduces costs, and allows flexible and remote working.

16

What are the negative impacts of modern technology on individuals?

Can cause stress, reduce face-to-face communication, lead to privacy issues, and create over-reliance on devices.
