Square stem shape, perennial plant, 3-5ft tall, 2-3ft spread, medium texture, full sun, partial shade, roots can flood, so good for RAIN GARDENS. It can withstand some shade, but does not thrive in it. Oppositely arranged leaves that are lanceolate and can be up to 6 inches long. Flowers last one day and bloom may to the 1st frost. Native to Mexico and the Caribbean, it also works well in butterfly gardens and is great for containers.
