Calcium homeostasis
The process that maintains stable calcium levels in the bloodstream.
Axial skeleton
Part of the skeleton that includes the skull, vertebral column, and rib cage.
Osteoblasts
Cells responsible for bone formation.
Osteoclasts
Cells that break down bone tissue.
Parathyroid hormone (PTH)
Hormone that increases calcium concentration in the blood.
Calcitonin
Hormone that decreases calcium concentration in the blood.
Articulated skeleton
A skeleton that consists of bones that are connected by joints.
Disarticulated skeleton
A skeleton where bones are not connected by joints.
Appendicular skeleton
Part of the skeleton that includes the limbs and girdles.
Thoracic cage
The skeleton of the chest made up of the ribs and sternum.
Vertebral column
The series of bones (vertebrae) that make up the backbone.
