Arguments for Maid/Euthanasia?

Euthanasia is the deliberate ending of a person life to relieve suffering that is done by a doctor.

What is Euthanasia?

MAID stands for medically assisted dying and this is where a doctor gives a patient medication to take home to commit suicide to relieve intolerable suffering.

The HSS (Humanist Society Scotland) is for the use of embyos in every scenario as they do not believe that an embryo is a person and base their opinjon based on scientific evidence.

The Catholic Church is against the use of embryos in all scenarios.

While the Church of Scotland is against the use of embryos but does permit IVF.

• Precautionary principle is the opinion that we don’t know whether the embryo is a person or not therefore shouldn’t use them ‘Just in case’.

• Eugenics is when rich people use PGD to pick out a ‘perfecct child’ and breed out the ‘bad’, Hitler was a big fan of eugenics with his ‘Aryan race’.

What are the arguments For the use of embryos?

• IVF stands for In Vitro Fertilisation and is used when couples can’t conceive naturally to help them have children.

• PGD stands for Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis and this is when embryos are tested to see if they have any genetic diesease, this can help couples with genetic diseases or a family history of them make sure they dont pass them on to their children.

• Three parent babies is when a woman has a condition such as mitichondrial disease removes the unhealthy mitochonria from her egg and replaces it with the healthy mitochonria of another woman, then using that egg to fertilize.

What is a Reproductive use of embryos?

Treating diabetes using embryos is one use and another would be treating paralysis through healing the damaged spinal cord.

What is a Therapy use of embryos?

Looking at the developments of pregnancy is one research use and another us creating tissue to study, for example creating heart tissue to study heart disease.
