primary intention
wound edges are closely approximated, allowing for minimal scarring and typically occurs after surgical incisions or clean cuts with the help of sutures, staples, & tape
secondary intention
edges are not approximated, leading to larger scars and longer healing times,leave wound alone and only clean in order to encourage granulation and healing.
tertiary intention
a delayed primary intention method, where a wound is initially left open to reduce the risk of infection and is closed later, often with sutures after healing has begun.
