What is buoyancy?
Buoyancy is the ability of a fluid to support an object floating in it or on it.
What does Archimedes' principle state?
Archimedes' principle states that the buoyant force on an object submerged in a fluid is equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by the object.
What is the relationship between density and buoyancy?
An object will float if its density is less than the fluid's density and sink if its density is greater.
How does temperature affect the density of a substance?
As temperature increases, particles move apart, decreasing the density of most substances.
What is the formula for calculating density?
Density (p) = mass (m) / volume (V).
Why do ice cubes float in water?
Ice is less dense than liquid water because it expands and has more space between particles in solid form.
What is the effect of salt on the density of water?
Adding salt to water increases its density, making it easier for objects to float.
How does the size of an object affect the buoyant force acting on it?
The buoyant force is proportional to the volume of fluid displaced, which is related to how large the object is.
What organ do many fish use to control their buoyancy?
Fish use a swim bladder to adjust their buoyancy by changing the amount of gas inside it.
What is meant by 'average density'?
Average density refers to the total mass of an object divided by its total volume, affecting its ability to float.
