insulin

travels in bloodstream and triggers body cells to take-up glucose from blood also triggers liver and muscle cells to store excess glucose

during puberty

reproductive hormones cause the secondary sex characteristics to develop

follicle stimulating hormone (FSH)

causes eggs to mature in ovaries

luteinising hormone (LH)

stimulates release of mature eggs from ovaries

oestrogen

• causes uterus lining to thicken

• inhibits release of FSH

• stimulates release of LH

progesterone

• maintains thick uterus lining

• inhibits release of FSH and LH
