Projectile Motion
The motion of an object thrown into the air with an initial horizontal velocity; affected only by gravity.
Vertical Velocity
The component of the velocity of an object that is directed vertically upward or downward.
Horizontal Velocity
The component of the velocity of an object that is directed along the horizontal plane.
Gravity
The force that attracts a body toward the center of the earth, affecting vertical motion of objects.
Independence of Forces
The principle that horizontal and vertical motions are independent of each other; horizontal motion does not affect how fast an object falls.
Maximum Height
The highest point reached by a projectile, where vertical velocity is zero before descending.
Parabolic Shape
The trajectory shape of an object under the influence of gravity; typically associated with projectile motion.
Speed at Launch
The initial velocity of a projectile when it is launched; it remains the same at the same vertical height.
