Action
Actively changing behavior within the past 6 months.
Maintenance
Sustaining behavioral change beyond 6 months
Termination
No temptation tp relapse; full confidence in ability to stick with change. Often omitted in PA contexts.
Key Stimuli for Precontemplation to Contemplation
Consequences become unavoidable
External pressure or feedback from others
Unpleasant emotions (dissatisfaction or feeling stuck)
Exposure to new information or role models
A moment of clarity or turning point that often carries emotional weight
Decisional Balance
Weighing pros and cons of changing behavior. Change is more likely when pros of change outweigh the cons.
Relapse
Behavior change is not linear; people relapse and re-enter earlier stages. Normalize relapse as apart of the process.
