What is active surveillance?
Designed and implemented by the users of the data - example is serological survey or farmer questionnaire
What is passive surveillance?
Uses data that has already been collected for some other purpose - example is farmer disease reporting system or an abattoir meat inspection
What is targeted surveillance?
Surveillance focused on a specific disease or pathogen - example is serological survey for brucellosis
What is general surveillance?
Surveillance not focused on a particular disease but can be used to detect any disease or pathogen - example is farmer disease reporting.

WAHIS - World Animal Health Information System. Has early warning systems and monitoring systems.
