Master Kong (Confucius)

Lived from 551—479 BCE

  • Made head of the police department to fix the corruption, but quit after one year because he believed it was impossible

    • Impossible to get the older people to change their ways, you have to start young

  • He then became a preschool teacher

    • If you want to make the city a better place, you have to teach the preschool kids to be honest, not to steal, and to respect their elders

    • Also taught preschool teachers, who taught more kids

Qin Shi Huang

1st emperor of China; lived from 259—210 BCE

  • Unified all of the separate cities in China into one country 

    • Started building the Great Wall, roads, aquaducts, etc. 

    • Emperor who had all of the terracotta statues of soldiers guarding his grave

  • Taxed everyone 50% in time—had to work for him for six months out of the year (building the wall, roads, etc.)

  • Confucians did NOT like him

    • Preschool teachers told their students he was not a good emperor because he did not care for the people—he then killed thousands of preschool teachers
