multinational state

a country that has more than one nationality, and no single group is the majority in terms of demographics, culture, or politics

sovereignty

the power of a political unit, or government, to rule over its own affairs

semi autonomous regions

states that have a degree of self-rule but not complete self-rule

state

largest polotical unit (a country)

multistate nation

when a nation has a state of its own but it stretches across borders of other states

(example: Korean Nation)

stateless nations

a cultural group that has no independent political entity

(example: Navajo)

nation

a group of people who have certain things in common (cultural heritage, beliefs, values that unify, traditional homeland, desire to establish self-rule)

nation-state

a nation of people who fulfill the qualifications of a state

(example: Japan, Iceland, Denmark, France, Germany)

autonomous region

a defined area within a state that has a self government and freedom from parent state
