Scene 8: Raft

AVIDYA: This is hard;

FAIRY: Yep.

AVIDYA: So much for “shortcut”;

FAIRY: Yep. (beat) Avidya!

AVIDYA: I got it! (beat) Chanda and I used to float down the River;

FAIRY: We have to hurry.

AVIDYA: What’s your hurry?;

FAIRY: This is it. The Great Storm’s begun.

AVIDYA: I’ve gathered;

FAIRY: The other fairies need my help. They won’t make it through without me.

AVIDYA: Ok let me get this straight: you knew the Great Storm was coming but you still decided to leave even though you knew the fairies would need your help;

FAIRY: Sure.

AVIDYA: I’ve been following you because you said the other fairies would have medicine, except you have been healing everything in the forest willy-nilly;

FAIRY: Well, no I’ve been-

AVIDYA: Why did you lead me here when you can heal Chanda yourself?;

FAIRY: It wouldn’t work.

AVIDYA: Why not?;

FAIRY: You saw! I hurt Frugivore. I disrupted the balance.

AVIDYA: It’ll be different;

FAIRY: No it won’t. Sunya was right, this isn’t our practice.

AVIDYA: Sunya?;

FAIRY: Look out! (bump)

AVIDYA: So you’re giving up?;

FAIRY: You’re not seeing clearly. I also want to save Chanda.

AVIDYA: You’re hiding something;

FAIRY: It doesn’t matter now.

AVIDYA: Why not? What is it?;

FAIRY: I should have left that bird alone.

AVIDYA: Tell me!;

FAIRY: You wouldn’t understand!
