Research Question

A specific question that is answered by research on a topic.

Hypothesis

A testable prediction on the presence of an effect or relationship between variables.

Theory

A provable explanation for a phenomenon that is supported by research and evidence.

Variable

Something that is changed or measured in a study.

Quantitative Variable

A variable that is measured with numbers and shows how much or how many.

Categorical Variable

A variable that names groups or categories.

Dependent Variable

The variable that is observed or measured to see the effect of the independent variable.

Independent Variable

The variable that is changed between the control and experimental groups.

Extraneous Variable

Any other variable that influences the study other than the independent and dependent variables.
