Trochanter
A large prominence or bony projection on the side of the femur.
Fossa
A shallow concave depression or cavity.
Sinus
An air filled cavity within a bone.
Head
A rounded end of a bone or a prominent extension of a bone that forms part of a joint.
Sulcus (groove)
A long shallow depression on the surface of a bone that allows a nerve or tendon to run along it.
Condyle
A large rounded projection at the end of a bone that forms an articulation with another bone.
Crest
A raised or prominent part of the edge of a bone.
Spine
A sharp, slender, or narrow projection.
Facet
A smooth flat surface where two bones meet.
Foramen
A hole through a bone where nerves and blood vessels pass.
Epicondyle
A projection superior to a condyle.
Fissure
An open slit between bones.
Meatus
A tube-like channel that extends into a bone.
Ramus
A curved branch or offshoot of a bone that gives structural support.
Tubercle
A small rounded prominence where connective tissues attach.
Tuberosity
A moderate prominence where muscles and connective tissues attach.
