Knee Replacement
A surgical procedure where a damaged knee joint is replaced with an artificial joint.
Neurovascular Assessment
A series of tests performed to assess blood flow and nerve function in an injured extremity.
Abduction Pillow
A type of wedge pillow used to keep the legs separated to prevent hip dislocation after surgery.
Cast
A hard protective shell, typically made of fiberglass or plaster, used to immobilize broken bones or severely sprained joints.
Compartment Syndrome
A serious condition caused by increased pressure within a muscle compartment that can lead to muscle and nerve damage.
Six P’s
The six signs to assess for compartment syndrome: pain, pallor, pulselessness, paresthesia, paralysis, and pressure.
Halo Traction
A type of skeletal traction used for cervical fractures involving a frame secured to the skull.
Skin Traction
A method of applying weights to the patient's skin to immobilize a fractured area and decrease muscle spasms.
Skeletal Traction
A more invasive form of traction involving pins or screws inserted into bones to maintain proper positioning.
Pin Site Care
The process of monitoring and caring for the insertion points of pins used in skeletal traction to prevent infection.
Elevated Toilet Seat
A type of toilet seat that is higher than usual to assist patients recovering from hip or knee surgery.
Assistive Devices
Tools or equipment designed to aid individuals with mobility challenges.
Rug Prevention
The practice of removing or securing rugs in a home to prevent tripping hazards for patients post-surgery.
Casting Complications
Potential issues that can arise from having a cast, such as increased pain, numbness, or swelling.
Pain Management in Casts
The process of using medications or elevation to relieve pain associated with swelling in a cast.

The process of informing and teaching patients about their conditions, treatments, and care needs.
