FUNCTION
- Alerts crew of operational problem or system malfunction on Central Warning Panel - CWP
CWP also known as:
- EICAS - Engine Indicating & Crew Alerting System - Boeing
Or,
- ECAM - Electronic Centralised Aircraft Monitoring - Airbus
- Replaces the Flight Engineer
DEGREES OF WARNINGS Colours (with the G1000, you should be all over this by now!)
- Warnings - Master warning
- Cautions - Master Caution
- Advisories
- Operating normally
- Status messages
OPERATING PRINCIPLE - Older School Shown
Centralised display, Insty Panel Eyebrow
- "MASTER WARNING" lights
- "MASTER CAUTION" lights
- Specific system malfunction lights grouped on a Central Warning Panel (CWP) screen. (Older - separate panel with ladder lights)
- Aural alert, flashing lights, or inverse cursor is stopped when reset button pressed
- Warning on CWP & "MASTER" light remains until corrected
- Redundancy achieved by multiple units: Two or more systems of Vehicle Monitoring Modules or Modular Avionics Units, and/or the use of DC and AC systems

Displays all engine parameters
Displays most A/C systems status
Inhibiting is sometimes necessary to remove unwanted alerts, particularly on the ground
ECAM and EICAS ALERTS
Visual Alerts - lights as previously discussed
Aural Alerts:
- WARNINGS - Bell, voice, siren & wailer sound until corrected or inhibited
- CAUTIONS - voice, beeper & clacker sound until corrected or inhibited
Tactile Alerts - Stall warning, "stick shaker" with "stick pusher" (190.351)
INHIBITING
- To prevent distraction
- Some functions auto-inhibited during engine start
- Some functions auto-inhibited at take-off through a time or height envelope
- Master Caution/Warning reset switch will cancel the master light and resets it for future warnings
- Except for Autopilot disconnect, Takeoff and landing Config, and Overspeed
- Remember the CWP panel alert will stay there
