Ivory – represents weakness and instability – Lou is uncomfortable, anxious and insecure e.g. repeats they’re all ‘screwed’ when anything goes wrong.

Winter coat – Lou feels scared for most of the play and the warmth of a winter coat is comforting – she’d wear something that eases her stress.

Black muddy trousers and school shirt

Matching Jan, Mark and Brian – shows they are part of the gang and lower status.

Mud – shows they have been messing about in the woods – bullying Adam – hinting at their complicity in what they think is his death.

Brown boots with a bloodstain around the edges

Brown – Mud

Shows their responsibility in what happened to Adam and a reminder of the guilt they end up feeling as a result.

Strong blusher on cheeks

Blushing – is the reddening of a person's face due to psychological reasons, triggered by emotional stress – Lou is stressed and anxious
