What does an amino acid contain?
Amino acids contain a carboxyl (-COOH) group and an amine (NH2) group.
What is an alpha amino acid?
The carboxyl and amine groups are attached to the same carbon
What are zwitterion?
Protons move from the OH group in the COOH group and join the NH2 group to form a Zwitterion.
How to zwitterions react with acids?
correct
How to zwitterions react with base?
correct
Peptide formation
The amino acids form peptides by loosing the OH in the COOH group and attaching the amino group from the next monomer by removing a hydrogen ion.
What is the pH of the solution where a zwitterion forms?
A neutral solution
