How do we define cheating?
Determining if the ethos of the game tolerates the rule violation
Set of shared norms for interpreting the rules, including the context and unwritten rules

Not all unethical or unlawful actions are synonymous with cheating
What is the defensive violation argument?
Recognizes that offensive and defensive violations differ
Offensive violations attempt to secure advantage for self over people complying with rules (unacceptable)
Defensive violations attempt to protect against being disadvantaged (maybe acceptable)
What is the limited sacrifice argument?
Some self interested rule violations may be morally acceptable
Conditions when rule violations can be justified
When the rule breaking is public knowledge and accepted as a fact of life
When resisting breaking the rule is clearly morally pointless or will produce more harm than good

We should only interfere if doing so will prevent harm to others
Mill argued that utility will be produced by upholding freedom of choice
What is liberty and agency?
Liberty (independence from controlling influences)
Lack of constraints
Ability to decide for self what happens to your life
Agency (capacity for intentional action)
Autonomy is meaning if we have nothing to choose from
