What are the 4 main Earth systems?
Geosphere, Biosphere, Hydrosphere, Atmosphere
What is the geosphere?
All the solid parts of Earth (rocks, soil, mountains, core)
What is the biosphere?
All living things (plants, animals, humans)
What is the hydrosphere?
All water on Earth (oceans, rivers, lakes, water vapor)
What is the atmosphere?
The layer of gases (air) around Earth
What does the hydrosphere help do?
Keeps Earth’s temperature moderate
What does the atmosphere protect us from?
Harmful radiation from the sun
What is the atmosphere made of?
Oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, water vapor, dust
What is an interaction between spheres?
When two spheres affect each other
Example: tree growing in soil → what spheres?
Biosphere + Geosphere
Example: flower absorbing water → what spheres?
Biosphere + Hydrosphere
Example: deer breathing air → what spheres?
Biosphere + Atmosphere
Humans belong to which sphere?
Biosphere
Can humans affect other spheres?
YES—all of them (atmosphere, geosphere, hydrosphere)
Example of humans affecting Earth?
Pollution or reducing pollution (like recycling)
What are parts of the geosphere?
Crust, mantle, outer core, inner core
What are the two types of crust?
Oceanic crust & continental crust
What are the main layers of the atmosphere?
Troposphere, Stratosphere, Mesosphere, Thermosphere
Which layer has the ozone layer?
Stratosphere
What does the ozone layer do?
Protects us from the sun’s radiation
