What are the three states of matter?
Solid, liquid, gas.
What happens to molecules in a solid when heated?
They expand and move more quickly.
What does Boyle's law state?
As you decrease the volume of a container, the pressure of the gas inside will increase.
What is Charles' law?
Volume of a gas will increase with increasing temperature.
What is Archimedes' principle?
An object's buoyant force is equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by that object.
What does Bernoulli's principle state?
Fluid velocity increases when flow is restricted.
What is plasma?
A state of matter found in space, stars, sun, etc., not in your blood.
What is the SI unit for pressure?
Pascal.
What is a heterogeneous mixture?
A mixture where the components remain distinct.
What is a colloid?
A heterogeneous mixture where the solid does not settle, such as milk.
What is a suspension?
A heterogeneous mixture between a solid and a liquid where the solid settles to the bottom, such as muddy water.
What is the Tyndall effect?
Scattering of light by a colloid.
What does the law of conservation of mass state?
The mass of reactants at the beginning of a reaction will always equal the mass of products at the end.
What are physical properties?
Characteristics such as color, size, shape, melting point, boiling point, and density.
What are chemical properties?
Properties that indicate a substance's potential to undergo chemical change.
What is the relationship between temperature and viscosity?
As temperature increases, viscosity decreases.
