Generalized Anxiety Disorder
Excessive anxiety and worry occurring more days than not for at least 6 months, accompanied by three or more symptoms.
Social Anxiety Disorder
Fear/anxiety about social situations, lasting for 6 months or more, often leading to avoidance.
Specific Phobia
Marked fear or anxiety about a specific object or situation, lasting for 6 months or more.
Panic Disorder
Presence of recurrent unexpected panic attacks characterized by intense fear or discomfort.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
Presence of obsessions and/or compulsions that are time-consuming or cause significant distress.
Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Disorder that occurs after exposure to a traumatic event, featuring intrusion symptoms, avoidance, and negative alterations in cognition.
Acute Stress Disorder
Occurs after experiencing a traumatic event, similar to PTSD but lasting from 3 days to one month.
Dissociative Amnesia
Inability to recall important biographical information, usually trauma-related.
Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID)
Characterized by the presence of two or more distinct identity states with recurrent amnesia.
Obsessions
Recurrent and persistent intrusive thoughts or images causing marked anxiety or distress.
Compulsions
Repetitive behaviors performed in response to obsessions to reduce anxiety.
Intrusion Symptoms
Recurrent, involuntary memories or flashbacks related to a traumatic event.
Avoidance Symptoms
Efforts to avoid thoughts, feelings, or reminders associated with a traumatic event.
Negative Alterations in Cognition
Changes in beliefs or emotions related to a traumatic event, such as self-blame.
Biopsychosocial Causes of Anxiety Disorders
Include biological, psychological, and social factors contributing to the development of anxiety disorders.
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Psychological treatment aimed at changing maladaptive thoughts and behaviors.
Exposure Therapy
Treatment involving gradual exposure to feared stimuli to reduce anxiety.
