Thomas Harriot's "A Briefe"

Portrayed Virginia as a rich fertile land with a lot of resources which would be good for English settlement. Depicted the Native Americans as peaceful people who are open to trade and Christianity. However, Harriot made for propaganda reasons so that he can attract investors to the new land since they were in competition with Spain.

Crevecoeur's "What is an American"

Being an American means you don't live under European hierarchies anymore since you now have access to land, work hard to make a living instead of inherited status, and economic independence. America is a place where different European nations are formed/melted into a single person. This only qualified for white Europeans. Enslaved Africans, women, and the natives were left out.
