Speed
The skills and abilities needed to achieve high movement velocities.
Change of Direction (COD)
The skills and abilities needed to explosively change movement direction, velocities, or modes.
Agility
The skills and abilities needed to change direction, velocity, or mode in response to a stimulus.
Rate of Force Development (RFD)
The development of maximal force in a minimal time, typically used as an index of explosive strength.
Impulse
The product of generated force and the time required for its production.
Velocity
A vector quantity that describes the speed of an object in a specific direction.
Acceleration
The rate at which an object's velocity changes over time.
Deceleration
Negative acceleration that describes a decrease in velocity.
Stretch-Shortening Cycle
An eccentric-concentric coupling phenomenon where muscles are lengthened and then immediately shortened in a reactive manner.
Spring Mass Model
A mathematical model that depicts sprinting as human locomotion where displacement of body mass results from energy produced through muscle actions.
