Ecosystem
All the organisms living in a particular area, together with the non-living (abiotic) conditions.
Biotic
The living components of an ecosystem, such as plants, animals, fungi, and microorganisms.
Abiotic
The non-living components of an ecosystem, such as temperature, light, water, and soil pH.
Community
All the populations of different species living in the same place at the same time.
Habitat
The place where an organism lives, characterized by its physical conditions and other species present.
Biomass
The total mass of living material in a given area or volume at a given time.
Biodiversity
The variety of living organisms in an area, including species diversity, genetic diversity, and ecosystem diversity.
Deciduous
Describes plants (often trees) that shed their leaves seasonally, typically in autumn.
Pioneer Species
The first species to colonize a bare or hostile environment, starting the process of succession.
Climax Community
The final, stable community that exists after succession has reached equilibrium with the environment.
