How did the Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wa sallam know that the Quraysh were planning an attack?

He sallAllahu alaihi wa sallam sent spies.

Why did the Quraysh want to fight the prophet SallAllahu alaihi wa sallam?

• The Quraysh wanted revenge after being defeated in Badr.

• The Quraysh felt their leadership was endangered and the Muslims’ power was increasing continuously.

• The Quraysh were concerned for their trade and interests (in Syria).

Why did the prophet SallAllahu alaihi wa sallam want to fight from within Madina?

He had a dream that he was wearing a strong shield (representing Madina), his sword was broken (representing the death of his relative) and cows were slaughtered (representing the death of the other companions).

Why did the prophet SallAllahu alaihi wa sallam decide to fight outside of Madina?

He consulted companions on their opinion: the youths wanted to fight outside Madina whereas the elders supported the prophet SallAllahu alaihi wa sallam. In the end, they decided to fight outside Madina.

Why did Abdullah ibn Salul withdraw with 300 soldiers?

He wanted to demoralise the Muslims. He was a hypocrite and he felt insulted because his advice was not taken to stay in Madina.

Where did the prophet SallAllahu alaihi wa sallam place the archers and why?

He placed the archers on top of the hill (named the Archers hill) so they can shoot the Quraysh when they tried to flank them from the left side for the Muslims.

Why were the Quraysh unable to flank the Muslims?

There were mountains on their left which protected the Muslims' right hand side and they could not attack from the right because there were archers waiting on the Archers hill.

What command did the prophet SallAllahu alaihi wa sallam give to the Archers?

‘‘Do not leave your post, even if you see the vultures snatching at our flesh’’

Why did 40 Sahabah leave the hill/mountain?

They wanted to collect the booty. They also thought that the battle was over.
