Describe TWO effects of the SPARTACIST REVOLT on Weimar Germany

1) increased political violence as the revolt was led by communists which made people of the extreme right (nationalists) more aggressive in trying to gain power. the 100,000 workers who went on strike were trying to take over buildings by force.

2) increased unreliability for the Weimar Republic as they were unable to handle the revolt by themselves due to their weak and limited army (as a result of the the 100,000 men limit in the treaty of versailles, which also increased disdain towards the republic because of the stab in the back theory). This made them reliant on the Freikorps, who were heavily against democracy. This made the Weimar Republic appear unreliable.

Describe 2 effects of the French Invasion of the Ruhr

1) worsened hyperinflation (1923) as the workers were ordered by the german government to not work but the government still payed them which contributed to heavy financial strain. this caused the government to print a lot of money. the ruhr also accounted for 80% of germany’s steel coal and iron production, which meant that it was very important for the german economy but the occupation disrupted production.

2) increased distrust and hatred for the weimar government.

Describe 2 effects of the Treaty of Versailles

1) increased hatred and distrust of the weimar government- germans felt embarrassed because they lost land (like Alsace Lorraine) and they had their army limited to 100,000 men and demilitarised the Rhine land. they also felt as though being put as the ones responsible was highly unfair

2) severe economic burden- 33 billion USD in reparations, which they failed to pay which led to the french invasion of the Ruhr in 1923. this contributed to hyperinflation
