State/Country
own government, rules borders, recognized by other countries
Independent State
country has total control over its government without being ruled by another country
Nation
A community of people bound to a homeland and possessing a common identity based on shared cultural traits such as language, ethnicity, and religion

Stateless Nation
An ethnic group or nation that does not posses its own state and is not the majority population in any nation state
Multinational States
Most countries contain multiple national, ethnic, and religious groups within their boundaries
autonomous region
A section or territory of a country that has a degree of self-government, or autonomy, in its decision making.
Semiautonomous region
region can make some of its own decisions but still has to follow rules of the country that controls it

a group of people get to determine for themselves how they get to govern a place

central part of a place where main culture/power is focused

one nation takes control over some other territory

countries controlling other lands and making them follow it’s rules, like a bully

powerful country controls/influences weaker country not through direct rule

coutries on the outer edge of power/wealth/influence and don’t have as much power/importance, rely on other countries economicaly

wealthy countries, relied on by peripheral states

countires nearby can enforce laws but don’t have total control
Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ)
costal states have special rights regarding ocdean nearby but do not necessarily own that territory
