Mixed Factorial Design
A research design that includes both between-subjects and within-subjects independent variables.
Between-Subjects Design
A type of design where different participants are assigned to different conditions of the independent variable.
Within-Subjects Design
A design where the same participants are involved in all conditions of the independent variable.
Main Effect
The effect of one independent variable on the dependent variable, ignoring the effects of other independent variables.
Interaction Effect
The effect that occurs when the effect of one independent variable on the dependent variable differs depending on the level of another independent variable.
Levene’s Test
A statistical test used to assess the equality of variances in different groups.
Two-Way ANOVA
An analysis of variance that involves two independent variables.
Effect Size
A quantitative measure of the magnitude of a phenomenon.
Homogeneity of Variance
An assumption that the variance among the groups is approximately equal.
Descriptive Statistics
Statistics that summarize the data in a dataset, including measures like mean and standard deviation.
Lexical Decision Task (LDT)
A task measuring how quickly people can classify words as real words or non-words.
Bonferroni Correction
A statistical adjustment made to p-values when multiple comparisons are being made to reduce the likelihood of false positives.
Response Inhibition
The ability to suppress responses that are inappropriate or unwanted.
