ethics
a code of norms that are relative and developmental, indictating how a community characterizes moral conduct or humane behavior toward other persons

a fundamental or primary sensation, allowing ppl to experience moral reactions and feelings of concern for others
emotional contagion
feeling emotions that are parallel to those of another person
empathic concern
a concern for the welfare of another
altruistic model
says the other oriented or selfless motivations to comfrort distressed individuals originate from a desire to improve the condition or state of the distressed person
egoistic model
claims that the motivation to comfort distressed others arises from self-centered or narcissistic predispositions, such that ppl comfort distressed others not out of concern for the other person’s welfare but instead for the purpose of meeting their own ego needs as helpers.
mirror neurons
highly specialized cells that activate or turn on when we engage in a behavior or when we observe another person enacting the same or a similar behavior
narcissists
unable or unwilling to adopt the perspective of others. thus, engage in uncaring behavior on a regular basis
