Verbal Operants

Functional Distinction
A concept emphasizing the importance of function over form in verbal behavior.
Point-to-Point Correspondence
Identical correspondence between the stimulus and response in verbal behavior.
Formal Similarity
The way in which a verbal message is delivered, such as both being in written form or spoken form.
Reinforcement in ABA
The process whereby a behavior is strengthened by consequences following it.
Generalized Reinforcement
Reinforcement that is not tied to a specific item or action, often includes praise or attention.
Motivating Operation
An event that alters the effectiveness of a reinforcer and makes a behavior more likely to occur.
Social Reinforcement
Reinforcement that comes from social interactions, often important in conversational interactions.
