Test Tube
Glass tube closed at one end used for mixing liquids, solids, or solutions for simple chemical tests.
Vial
Small glass or plastic bottle, cylindrical, used for storing small amounts of solids or liquids.
Beaker
Deep wide-mouthed, thin-walled cylindrical vessel with calibration and pouring lip, used for boiling water or solutions when no flask is available.
Erlenmeyer Flask
Thin-long necked, cone-shaped glass vessel with triangular body and flat bottom, used to hold chemical solutions and to heat liquids.
Florence Flask
Long-necked, thin glass vessel with a rounded body, used as a reaction vessel and sometimes a gas apparatus.
Volumetric Flask
Thin-walled, flat-bottom flask with a long, narrow neck used for preparing solutions at a desired concentration.
Reagent Bottle
Glass container with narrow necks closed by stoppers used for storing reagent substances.
Graduated Cylinder
Glass container with calibrations used to measure liquid volume.
Pipette
Aspirator
Rubber device used for cleaning balance pans and for drawing liquids into a pipette.
Burette
Long, graduated tube used in volumetric analysis or titration to measure precise volumes of liquid.
Dropper
Short glass piece with a constricted end and rubber bulb used to dispense liquids in drops.
Stirring Rod
Straight slender glass rod used to stir solutions and aid transfer of liquids.
Watch Glass
Glass plate used to cover a beaker to prevent contamination of solutions.
Glass Funnel
Hollow cone with a stem used to support filter paper and facilitate introduction of liquid.
Thermometer
Glass device used for measuring temperature (in Celsius or Fahrenheit).
Mortar and Pestle
Ceramics used for grinding solid substances into powder.
Crucible and Cover
Container used for heating or melting small amounts of substances requiring extreme heat.
Evaporating Dish
Shallow porcelain dish used to evaporate water from a solution to obtain solid materials.
Iron Stand
Solid iron rod mounted on a base used to support or mount apparatus.
Iron Ring
Circular iron mount on an iron stand used to support beakers and other devices, and to hold wire gauze in place.
Iron Clamp
Solid iron piece used to support a test tube, flask, or other device.
Burette Clamp
Metallic device used to hold burettes in titration.
Tripod
Three-legged stand used to support apparatus, especially for heating without a wire gauze.
Wire Gauze
Thin metal screen with a center of asbestos used to support and protect beaker and flask from direct flame.
Test Tube Holder
Metallic device used to hold a test tube safely while heated or when it contains corrosive reagent.
Crucible Tong
Tool used to handle hot crucibles and evaporating dishes.
Clay Triangle
Support for crucibles and other apparatus that require direct heating.
Test Tube Rack
Wooden rack used to keep a supply of test tubes ready for use.
Spatula
Tool used for spooning out small amounts of solids from a container.
Alcohol Lamp
Glass-bottomed lamp with a metal screw top, filled with denatured alcohol to provide heat.
Bunsen Burner
Device used to provide heat using gas or fuel.
Triple Beam Balance
Mechanical balance calibrated in grams with a capacity of about 610 g and 0.1 g sensitivity.
Top Loading Electronic Balance
Digital balance with a display used to measure the mass
