New deal for communities (2000s) Devonport

Location

Located South West England, west of Plymouth City Centre, overlooks river Tamar, on the coast. The area was originally developed to serve the Royal Navy 18th Century.

What happened ?

Destroyed in the Blitz, after the war the military took over, the split Devonport in 2, divided shops, theatres and pubs.

Under Blair, Labour government, 

regeneration programme for most deprived area

focus on partnerships between communities and councils and private sector (property developers)

Area received £47 mil in NDC money

Led by Devonport regeneration company
