Solving Equations and Inequalities
To find the solution to an equation or inequality, solve the equation using the distributive property if needed and use inverse operations to isolate the variable.
Solution to 4(x-5) + 2 = 14
x = 14
Solution to the inequality 2x - 2.5 > 3 + 7
x = 16
Solution to 3x - 7 = ax + 5
x = 12 / (3-a)
Solution to the inequality 2 - 4m <= 6m + 12
m >= -2
Jennifer's first step to solving the equation 2(6 - x) - 11 = x is justified by what property?
Distributive property
Inequality representing the number of fish and frogs in a pond where the number of fish is eight more than the number of frogs, and the total is at least 20 frogs
2x + 8 >= 20
Laura wrote 4 + 4 = 16 as her first step in solving the equation 4^(x+1)= 16. Which property justifies Laura's first step?
Addition Property of Equality
w=(p/2)-l
The result when the formula p=2l+2w is solved for w.
Addition Property of Equality
Describes Stephanie's first step in solving the equation -4 + 12 = -12 -7x -8.
