Neurotransmitters
Chemicals that transmit signals across synapses between neurons.
Neuroscientist
A scientist who studies the structure and function of the nervous system and brain.
Electroencephalogram (EEG)
Technique that measures electrical activity in the brain using electrodes placed on the scalp.
Positron Emission Tomography (PET)
Imaging test that helps reveal how your tissues and organs are functioning by using a radioactive substance.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
Imaging technique that uses powerful magnets and radio waves to create detailed images of organs and tissues inside the body.
Functional MRI (fMRI)
An MRI method that measures brain activity by detecting changes associated with blood flow.
Cerebellum
Part of the brain that regulates motor control and coordination.
Hippocampus
Region of the brain associated with memory formation and spatial navigation.
Amygdala
Almond-shaped structure that plays a key role in processing emotions such as fear and pleasure.
Corpus Callosum
The large band of neural fibers connecting the two brain hemispheres and carrying messages between them.
