What is History?
History is the study of past events and how they shape the present and future.
Why should we study history?
Studying history helps us understand why things are the way they are and avoid repeating mistakes.
What are the problems that can arise from studying history?
Distortion, Fragmentation, Perception, and Bias.
What is a primary source?
A primary source is a first-hand account of an event, such as a diary, photo, or letter.
What is a secondary source?
A secondary source is information based on primary sources, such as textbooks or documentaries.
How can you tell the difference between a primary and a secondary source?
Primary sources provide direct evidence of an event, while secondary sources offer interpretations or summaries of primary sources.
What is the historical thinking concept of Cause and Consequence?
It refers to understanding why something happened and what resulted from it, for example, WWI was caused by alliances.
What is Historical Significance?
Historical Significance determines why an event matters, such as Vimy Ridge showing Canada’s strength.
What does Continuity and Change refer to in historical thinking?
It examines what stayed the same and what changed over time, for example, women's rights improved after WWI.
What is Historical Perspective?
It is the understanding of how people in the past viewed events differently than we do now, such as soldiers viewing war as honourable.
