Pectoral Girdle
Made up of the clavicle and the scapula
Articulates with the trunk and supports the upper limbs

Clavicle
An S-shaped bone that extends between the sternum (manubrium) and the scapula

Sternal End of the Clavicle
Medial, articulates with the sternum (manubrium)
Forms the sternoclavicular joint

Acromial End of the Clavicle
Lateral
Broad & Flat
Articulates with the acromion of the scapula

Scapula
Broad, flat, triangular bone that forms the “shoulder blades”
One on the right side of the body and one on the left

Spine of the Scapula
Posterior Ridge

Coracoid Process
Smaller, more anterior projection of the scapula

Acromion Process
Posterior process that is continuous with the spine of the clavicle
Articulates with the acromial end of the clavicle to form the acromioclavicular joint

Glenoid Cavity
Lateral, cup-shaped, shallow depression that articulates with the head of the humerus
Creates the glenohumeral joint
“Socket” of the ball & socket joint that makes up the shoulder
