patients have ability to understand info and make reasoned judgment abt whether or not to agree.

Voluntariness

patient is free to choose w/o any coercion/manipulation from family members, physicians, researchers, socioeconomic factors.

Informed consent

process of getting someone’s permission to receive a medical intervention/participate in research

Disclosure

they’re given all info needed to make an informed choice
