Active Bleed Control Medication
Medications given when active bleeding is suspected, often used prophylactically.
Altitude Sickness Medication
Sildenafil Citrate (Viagra) is used to treat altitude-induced pulmonary edema, especially in high-altitude climbers.
Analgesics
Medications such as Toradol, Fentanyl, and Dilaudid used for pain relief, with some being powerful narcotics which need reversal with Narcan.
Anesthetic
Ketamine is used as an anesthetic that also provides sedation and may increase blood pressure.
Proton Pump Inhibitor
Protonix (Pantoprazole) used for treating gastritis by decreasing stomach HCl and promoting healing.
Antibiotics
Levaquin and Bactrim are used for bacterial infections, with specific antibiotics for gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
Anticoagulants
Medications like Coumadin, Lovenox, and Heparin act as blood thinners to prevent and treat blood clots.
Antifungal
Fluconazole (Diflucan) is an antifungal used to treat systemic fungal infections.
Anxiety Control Medications
Medications like Versed (midazolam) and Valium (diazepam) used to treat anxiety.
Arousal Agent
Physostigmine (Antilirium) is helpful in promoting neurological arousal and may increase respiratory drive.
Benzodiazepines
A class of sedatives including Ativan, Librium, and Xanax, used for anxiety and alcohol withdrawal symptoms.
Benzodiazepine Reversal
Romazicon (Flumazenil) reverses the effects of benzodiazepines but can cause seizures if reversed too quickly.
Blood Clot Removal/Prevention Medications
Including Topical Thrombin and RTPA (Activase), these medications are used to stop bleeding and prevent clots.
Bronchodilators - Short Term
Medications like Albuterol used as rescue medications to treat bronchospasms; may cause palpitations.
Bronchodilators - Long Acting
Medications like Tiotropium Bromide (Spirva) provide longer-lasting bronchodilation, often used with rescue meds.
