Data Collection
The systematic process of gathering and recording information about behavior.
Behavior Assessment
Methods used to identify a client’s skill strengths and deficits.
Discrete-trial teaching (DTT)
A structured teaching method that breaks skills down into small, teachable steps.
Positive Reinforcement
Adding something the person likes after a behavior, increasing the likelihood of that behavior.
Negative Reinforcement
Removing something unpleasant after a behavior, which increases that behavior.
Extinction
The process of stopping the reinforcement that was maintaining a behavior.
Crisis Procedures
Pre-planned actions to maintain safety during dangerous situations.
Generalization
The ability of a client to use skills across different contexts, settings, and with various people.
Observational Data
Information collected by directly watching the client’s behavior during sessions.
Prompt Fading
The gradual removal of prompts to encourage independence in the client.
