Certification
a voluntary process through which an agency grants recognition to an individual on demonstration, usually by examination, of specialized professional skills
Joint Review Committee (JRC)
group of persons appointed by sponsoring organizations to oversee the accreditation process
Licensure
Process by which a governmental agency (usually a state) grants permission to individuals to practice their profession

ASRT

TSRT
Texas Society of Radiologic Technologists. Advances rad. sciences, promotes high standards of education and pt. care, and supports the welfare of rad. techs in Texas.

JRCERT
Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology. Board is nominated by ACR, ASRT, and AHRA. Accredits more programs than any other allied health profession.

HIPAA
Federal legislation passed to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the healthcare system. Components that effect health info include privacy, security, and the establishment of standards and requirements for the electronic transmission of certain health info.
International Classification of Diseases, 10th revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM)
This classification system is used for diagnosis coding in all healthcare settings in the US.
Medical Necessity
healthcare services or supplies that are needed to diagnose or treat an illness, injury, condition, disease, or its symptoms
Revenue Cycle
The process of patient financial and health information moving into, through, and out of the healthcare organization, culminating with the healthcare organization receiving reimbursement for services provided.

Implied consent
Person's agreement to allow something to happen which is not expressly given but rather inferred from a person's actions or inactions
Informed Consent
Person's agreement to allow something to happen (such as surgery) that is based on a full disclosure of the facts needed to make the decision intelligently—that is, knowledge of risks involved, alternatives, benefits, and other information needed by a reasonable person to make a decision
Negligence
failure to do something that a reasonable person guided by the ordinary considerations that ordinarily regulate human affairs would do or the doing of something a reasonable and prudent person would not do
Res Ipsa Loquitur
the thing speaks for itself. three elements: 1. the injury occurred due to negligence, 2. the activity was under complete control of the defendant, 3. the plaintiff did not contribute to their own injury in any way.
Respondeat Superior
"Let the master answer" an employer is vicariously liable for the behavior of an employee working within his or her scope of employment
Standard of Care
degree of skill, knowledge, and care ordinarily possessed and employed by members in good standing within the profession
Tort
private or civil wrong or injury, other than breach of contract, for which the court provides a remedy in the form of an action for damages
